Space Clinics are putting their

prices on ice.

To the Arctic and beyond – via SPACE - April 2009

Fiona Lindsay has a goal. She aims to become the first woman to make a true crossing of the Antarctic continent from coast to coast, via the South Pole.

She will be on skis, using huge kites as wind power and having to pull a sledge behind her carrying equipment.  The entire crossing will take 75 days complete in 50 degrees celcius below freezing.

Fiona is also a SPACE patient, and has been a regular visitor since an injury to her knee caused a delay to her preparations. In January of this year, a torn cartilage was causing Fiona problems when training for the expedition which, at the time, involved her dragging three tyres up Arthur’s Seat. As a physio in Edinburgh herself, she knew she required urgent attention ....

February 2009

Welcome to winter!

Perhaps we’ve not seen the weather of our friends in the south, but this chilly spell of winter usually means that the 6 Nations rugby championship is under way. SPACE has been well represented in the past with physios Stuart Barton & Stephen Mutch ensuring that the squad is well maintained off the pitch, along with regular masseuse to the team, Gillian Main.

Surgeon Gordon Mackay often sees the players directly after matches home or away to assess significant injuries that may require surgery, and this season sees SPACE Director Gregor Townsend shifting from media pundit to backs coach to the Scottish team.......

September 2008

It has been a busy year for Space Clinics and one full of good news for the team - an update on what we have been up to is long overdue, but we'd just like you let you know what has been happening behind the scenes.

Talking 'bout the new generation

This has been a joyous year for two of our SPACE families.

We have just welcomed our original Office Manager, Sharon Cleghorn, back to the SPACE fold following the birth of Lily in December. She's a beautiful baby, and already the joy of husband Ross and Sharon's lives.

In Touch with Space Clinics - July 2008

The Scottish Touch Association has teamed up with SPACE Clinics to provide Scotland’s top touch rugby players with high quality care at this year’s biggest international tournament.

The deal will see the Edinburgh-based clinic provide physiotherapy services to the six Scottish teams competing at the European Touch Championships in Paris, France, which begin on Thursday (10 July 2008).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPACE! 3 years and counting! - February 2008

Monday 14th February, 2005.

Space opened its doors for the first time since the premises changed from a lingerie shop to an integrated centre of physiotherapy, massage, podiatry and orthopaedics!

2 physios, a masseuse and our Office Manager fronted up at 9am, and 9 patients later Space had achieved its first day of business. A dream conceived years before had come true, an original business plan written on a napkin at a pub lunch had become a reality, and our first patients had utilised the sprung flooring, the vibration platform and the plethora of towels scattered around the various treatment rooms and spaces available.

3 years later.....

GREGOR TOWNSENDS RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007

THE NEW YORK MARATHON By Christian Bruce - May 2007

When I decided to run the New York marathon, I was under no illusions as to how difficult the task ahead of me would be. I bought Jeff Galloway’s book (a must for beginner marathon runners) ‘Marathon – You Can Do It’ which was recommended to me by a veteran of five marathons as the running “bible” and I began my training.

Regardless of how careful you are marathon running takes a physical toll on your body. One of the reasons I decided to run the marathon was to find a replacement exercise for rugby which I had given up due to a herniated L4/L5 disc sustained in my final, career ending game. Having tried two different physiotherapists and an osteopath, I had found no relief from the excruciating sciatica and all the usual discomforts of a knackered lower back. Fortunately for me, Space clinics opened in Dalry Road a couple.....

Space Clinics are delighted to announce that we will be continuing our partnership with Edinburgh Capitals for the 07/08 season.  Space Clinics will continue to be identified as the official Sports Medicine Clinic to the Edinburgh Capitals ice hockey team in the bmibaby Elite Ice Hockey League

MARTIN CINGEL, EDINBURGH CAPITALS CAPTAIN - April 2007

March 2007

At the moment the season is coming to the last stage.  Every team in Elite League is fighting for play off spot and every spot is still open.  It is good for the fans that league is so competitive from start to end, but for players it is little more difficult.  You have no time to take any game easy.  One small mistake can cost team play off stages so everyone gives 100%.  My team is still fighting for Top 8 place finish which means we will play the play off.

GREGOR TOWNSEND - 6 NATIONS 2007 - March 2007

It has been far from a classic Six Nations tournament – in fact there was precious little quality attacking play or consistency of performance from any team – but there has been plenty of drama over the past two months.  From Vincent Clerc’s last minute try at Croke Park, Scotland’s nightmare start against Italy, referee Chris White upsetting the Welsh in Rome, and finally to ‘Super Saturday’ when both Ireland and France threw caution to the wind and scored heavily, it has been compelling viewing......

These runners are invited to take advantage of the services offered by the company’s chartered physiotherapists who have skills and experience in sports injury, back pain, post-op rehabilitation, manipulation and motor control......

AND RELAX - WELL SORT OFF - March 2007

Well its Monday the 26th of March so that means that the world cup has came and gone.

Success for me was to get to the final of my chosen event the 15km Scratch race and get there I did.  The biggest problem I came across was getting on to an indoor track over the past few weeks to work on the all-important speed required for the world cup.  So putting the lack of track time behind me I set about my event with all the usual rituals off warming up, getting the all important play list sorted on my mp3 player and setting about "gittin the heed own".....

GREGOR TOWNSEND - 6 NATIONS 2007 - January 2007

It's that time of year again when rugby gets to dominate the back pages for a few weeks.  There has always been something special about the Six Nations, a tournament that continues to make the southern hemisphere very envious indeed.  A Six Nation weekend is one of the best sporting occasions on the planet, even if there have been many times over the years when the result has been a foregone conclusion.  This year's tournament is set to be the most enthralling in years, not least for the fact that both of the traditional powerhouses - England and France - struggled badly during the autumn internationals.....

JAMES MCCALLUM – 2006 COMMONWEALTH GAMES MEDALIST - January 2007

2006 has been an unbelievable year, since an amazing 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne success has followed success.  Now as the 2007 season beckons I am a fully fledged Professional in my sport and going from strength to strength.  This wouldn’t have been possible with out the help and backing from Space Clinics. These guys....
